Cultural Magazine Passages

Passages, the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia’s cultural magazine, was published twice a year. Taking up subjects of cultural relevance to Switzerland, the magazine featured articles by well-known writers in and outside the country. Marielle Larré was editor of the French edition of the magazine and also translated for it.
This last issue of Passages featured a timeline presenting key milestones in the Arts Council’s history, from its origins to the present time. In an introductory article, historian and journalist Daniel Di Falco examines the political and societal context that led to the founding of Pro Helvetia in 1939, as well as the tensions between politics and culture that have shaped its work over the years. Supporting and promoting arts and culture has always been central to Pro Helvetia’s mandate. The floor was therefore given to five Swiss artists, representing different generations and disciplines Theatre artist Milo Rau concluded the dossier section with an impassioned speech to the artists of the future.
The Arts Council of Switzerland Pro Helvetia renounced publishing a magazine in 2015.
New Museum Guide

The more than 100 buildings at the Ballenberg Open-Air Museum tell truly exciting stories. They are the silent witnesses of a time which has moved on so to speak – the buildings however still remain. These stories have been captured in the brand new museum guide. The cultural studies expert, Werner Bellwald, has succeeded in highlighting the architectural details of interest and in connecting them with the social life of that time.
Marielle Larré and her colleagues (Charlotte Gloor, Marion Graf, Anne Maurer, Christian Viredaz) have realized the French translation.
Bienne, refuge et patrie

"At Home in Biel/Bienne" – Protection against persecution in the Middle Ages, innovative watch manufacturers in the 19th century, solidarity in the contemporary era: these are some of the key concepts characterising the history of the Jews in Biel/Bienne as told by Annette Brunschwig, the author of the book. For her study, she has been able to draw on a previously unpublished archive dating from the Second World War. Originally published in German under the title "Heimat Biel", the book was translated into French by Marielle Larré.

Twins Leonie and Eva fly to England for their annual summer holiday with their grandmother, but this year adventure awaits. Alexandra Lavizzari’s entertaining and suspenseful story for young people, complete with flying horses and mischievous magicians, was translated into French by Marielle Larré.
Culture in the Digital Age

The digital media have had an indelible impact on society. Kultur digital is a collection of essays focussing on the digital revolution, with case studies from pop and classical music, architecture and design, photography and film, dance and theatre, visual art and performance, and the sphere of books and libraries.
The world of digital culture has its own terminology and concepts. Some of them are familiar, others totally new. The glossary included in the publication was translated into French by Marielle Larré.

Translated into French by Marielle Larré, the SJW booklet uses simple, comprehensible terms to explain what weather is, how wind, clouds, rain, hail and snow come about, why there are seasons, and how to read a weather map.
Switzerland’s Caves

The Swiss Jugendschriftwerk has been distributing reasonably priced topical literature for young readers in the four languages of the country since 1931. One of its latest publications explores the subject of physics as we encounter it everywhere in our day-to-day lives. Seeing, drinking, cycling, balancing, listening to music: physics is behind them all. This book, translated into French by Marielle Larré, shows us how it all works.
Equal Pay

An educational tool for the promotion of pay equity. The project is based on a CD published by the Fachstelle für Gleichstellung von Frau und Mann (Office of Gender Equality) of the Canton of Zurich. The website offers answers to questions relating to the issue of equal pay and ideas for its implementation in a business environment. It was translated into French by Marielle Larré.
Cultural report – «Progress Europe»: French version

Culture is playing an increasingly strategic role in the process of European unification. But how is it being used? What is the state of cultural relations within Europe? What can European cultural policy contribute to the development of a European identity? The “Progress Europe” report seeks to answer these questions. The authors include film-makers, architects, theatre professionals, scholars and journalists, who join educational and cultural-policy specialists from all over the world. The Glossar zur Schweizer Kulturpolitik (Glossary of Swiss Cultural Policy), published by Pro Helvetia, was prepared as an aid to finding one’s way in the terminological maze of Swiss cultural policy. It caters for a wide audience of people interested in culture in Switzerland. The texts by Christian Rentsch were translated by Marielle Larré.
Cahiers d'artistes

With its Cahiers d'artistes collection, the Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia supports professional Swiss visual artists to whom monographic publications have not yet been dedicated. The first five series were edited by Marielle Larré.
Here and away. Living in two worlds

In six-month narrative workshops, more than seventy migrants reflected on their own biographies. The participants had come to Switzerland from Italy, Germany, Hungary, Turkey and former Yugoslavia. They were joined by native Swiss who had moved to urban centres from remote mountain regions in the 1940s and 1950s. In another workshop, children from European and non-European countries talked about their own migrant experiences.
The intercultural project gave rise to a book and a video documentary. They and additional documentary and audiovisual material from the narrative workshops can be viewed at or borrowed from the Schweizerisches Sozialarchiv (Swiss Social Archive) in Zurich. The French translation of the website is by Marielle Larré.
